Determination of Amorphous Content Using Transmission SpectrophotometrySpectrophotometry is a widely-used, non-destructive tool for measuring the optical properties of materials as a function of wavelength. The objective of this project was to evaluate the use of spectrophotometry for determining the amorphous content of (Ba1-xSrx)yTiO2+y films. The films all had compositions y < 1 and were either fully amorphous or contained a mixture of crystalline Ba1-xSrxTiO3 and amorphous material. The amorphous fraction in each film was estimated by determining the Urbach pseudogap from the transmission spectra. Details of this work are available in a recent publication (L.D. Rotter et al, Thin Solid Films, vol. 368 (2000), 41.) |
