characterization of fracture

Labelled Weibull Graphs
Labelled Weibull graphs couple the strength values, fracture origin types, their locations and sizes.

The figure below is a labelled Wiebull graph for a sintered 99.9% alumina. Thirty standard B flexure bars were fractured at room temperature. All specimens were examined with an optical microscope and selected specimens with a scanning electron microscope.

Note that three ASTM standards were used:
  • C 1322 for fractographic analysis
  • C 1161 for the flexure strength measurement
  • C 1239 for the Weibull statistical analysis.
